  1. POWER PLANNER README FILE
  2.  
  3. Power Planner is a project management package
  4. offering facilities similar to those found in
  5. such packages as MS Project, Artemis, or Open Plan.
  6.  
  7. This shareware version supports critcal path
  8. analysis and resource aggregation. It has an
  9. interactive network editor, bar chart (Gantt
  10. chart) facility, multiple calendars per project,
  11. calendars in weeks/days/hours/minutes, and SQL
  12. driven interactive query and report writer.
  13. It may be upgraded to the licensed version which
  14. supports resource scheduling (incuding user set
  15. priority), MPX (MS Project) and Artemis 7000
  16. interfaces. For evaluation purposes, you will be
  17. able to use the features of the licensed version
  18. for 45 days.

  20. The registration fee is $40 (U.S. dollars).
  21. Registration entitles you to 90 days free support
  22. by e-mail.

  27. the section on difficulties below. If you are

  42. Power Planner is a Windows Program, and requires
  43. MS Windows 3.1 (or later), Windows NT, or
  44. Windows 95 to run.

  46. If you are installing from a downloaded copy
  47. or ZIP File, proceed as follows:
  48.  
  49.   Create a temporary directory on your hard
  50.   drive, (e.g. c:\PPDISKS)
  51.  
  52.   Copy (or Unzip) the Power Planner files
  53.   into the temporary directory
  54.  
  55.   There is a document, UNINSTAL.TXT,
  56.   included in the Power planner files in the
  57.   temporary directory. This describes
  58.   procedures for uninstalling Power Planner.
  59.   If you may wish to uninstall Power Planner
  60.   later, you should read this document before
  61.   continuning the installation.

  63.   From Windows 95:
  64.     Select the Start button
  65.  
  66.   From Windows 3.1 or Windows NT
  67.     Select File from the Program Manager
  68.  
  69.   Select Run
  70.  
  71.   Enter the name of the directory you have created,
  72.   followed by 'setup' (e.g. C:\PPDISKS\SETUP)
  73.  
  74.   Follow the instructions. In case of difficulty,
  75.   see the notes below.

  77.   Note that Windows does not handle dates beyond
  78.   1999 very well. If you are going to construct plans
  79.   that extend into and beyond the year 2000, you should
  80.   set your Windows short date format to a four digit
  81.   year, (i.e. yyyy instead of yy). This will avoid many
  82.   of the problems that Windows has in recognizing dates.

  84.   One important point. Do not make assumptions about
  85.   what you can move or change. Power Planner uses quite
  86.   a sophisticated setup. Install Power Planner in its
  87.   intended directory and leave it there. Any attempt to
  88.   reconfigure, change ini files setting etc. is likely
  89.   to result in the program failing to work. If you need
  90.   to move your program or data, registered users will be
  91.   given free support to make sure that any changes are
  92.   handled correctly.

  94.   When installation is complete and the program has
  95.   been running smoothly for some time you may delete
  96.   the temporary directory (C:\PPDISKS). You may wish
  97.   to keep a backup of the ZIP file.

  99. Difficulty with installing/reinstalling
  100. ---------------------------------------

  102. If you have problems with installation, proceed as
  103. follows:
  104.  
  105. 1) For the time being, disable any programs from
  106.    starting automatically when Windows starts.
  107. 2) Disable any utility programs.
  108. 3) Check whether the install program has created the
  109.    file CCPPDLL.DLL in your Windows System directory,
  110.    and if so remove it.
  111. 3) Check whether the install program has created the
  112.    file POWRPLAN.INI in your Windows directory, and
  113.    if so remove it.
  114. 4) Check whether the install program has created the
  115.    Power Planner directory (default C:\POWRPLAN),
  116.    and if so remove it with all sub-directories.
  117. 5) Shut down your system, switch off the computer,
  118.    restart the computer, and start Windows.
  119. 6) Do not start any other programs.
  120. 7) Try running the Power Planner setup program again.
  121. 8) If difficulties persist, email Sphygmic Software with
  122.    an outline of what you have done, a complete
  123.    description of the problem, a list of your operating
  124.    software and version, the type of computer including
  125.    amount of RAM installed, and any peripherals that you
